Local Information:

This workshop will take place on the main campus of Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge. Driving directions from the nearby interstates are available on the LSU web site. The two hotels on campus are the Lod Cook Hotel and the Faculty Club Hotel. The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR) is 9 miles from LSU. BTR is serviced by Continental Airlines, and offers service to international airports in Atlanta, Houston, and Memphis. There is currently no direct public transportation between BTR and LSU although typically there are taxis already waiting outside the baggage claim area at BTR. A cab ride from BTR to LSU runs about $35. The New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is 75 miles away. However, there is no passenger train service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, and the bus service between New Orleans and LSU is very limited. Participants can go to the LSU Visitor Information Center to get campus directions and parking instructions. An online campus map is also available. Some local attractions in Baton Rouge include the Rural Life Museum, the Louisiana State Capitol, the Old State Capitol, and Bluebonnet Swamp. Participants may also enjoy visiting historical sites around Saint Francisville which is 30 miles away, or in the New Orleans French Quarter. The Louisiana Office of Tourism web site has detailed information about area attractions. There is also a local events calendar in Country Roads Magazine. Some popular restaurants near the LSU campus include Chimes (which is located on Highland Road two blocks north of the Faculty Club and is open for lunch and dinner), the Faculty Club Restaurant (which is open for lunch), and Louie's Cafe (on West State St. which is one block north of and parallel to West Chimes St.) which is famous for their omelettes. Tsunami is a well known restaurant in downtown Baton Rouge. The weather in Baton Rouge in late May is typically humid with highs in the 80's and lows in the 60's but the talks will be in an air conditioned building and the campus hotels are air conditioned. Questions about MCT'07 should be sent to Peter Wolenski (wolenski@m*) or Alvaro Guevara (aguevara@m*) where m* stands for math.lsu.edu.

Organizers and Sponsors:

The workshop chair is Peter Wolenski, and Michael Malisoff is the workshop co-chair. The assistant organizer is Alvaro Guevara. The organizers thank the Louisiana Board of Regents for funding this workshop as part of their project "Enhancing Control Theory at LSU".

Piermarco Cannarsa

Piermarco Cannarsa is a full professor of mathematical analysis at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". His scientific interests include partial differential equations, control theory and nonsmooth analysis. His current research is concerned with regularity of viscosity solutions to Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations, singularities of (semi)concave functions in both finite and infinite dimensions, and controllability of nonlinear evolution equations.

Cannarsa authored more than 60 papers in international journals, and the book "Semiconcave functions, Hamilton-Jacobi equations, and optimal control", published by Birkhäuser in 2004. He served as Associate Editor for the SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization. He is currently in the editorial board of the Rendiconti di Matematica.
