LSU Alumni Association Distinguished Dissertation Award
The LSU Alumni Association annually sponsors the Distinguished Dissertation Awards. Two awards are given: one in the arts, humanities and social sciences, and one in science, engineering and technology. Awards are presented to the doctoral student in each category whose research and writing epitomize superior scholarship. The following are the winners of the Alumni Association Distinguished Dissertation Award from the Mathematics Department. The year refers to the year of the dissertation.

College of Science Distinguished Dissertation Award
In conjunction with the LSU Alumni Association Distinguished Dissertation Award, the College of Science also annually sponsors a Distinguished Dissertation Award for the outstanding dissertation from the College of Science. Pasquale Porcelli Graduate Student Research Excellence Award
The Pasquale Porcelli Award for Graduate Research Excellence is awarded each fall semester to a graduate student who has passed the General Exam prior to the current academic year and who shows the greatest promise of making significant contributions to mathematical research, both as a graduate student and in his or her subsequent career. This award will normally be given to a final-year student and cannot be won more than once. The winner receives a Certificate of Graduate Research Excellence and a monetary award from the Department's Pasquale Porcelli Fund.

Pasquale Porcelli Certificate of Excellence in Research
Beginning with the fall semester of 2010, the Department may award Pasquale Porcelli Certificates of Research Excellence for graduate students in addition to the Pasquale Porcelli Award for Graduate Research Excellence. The selection process and criteria are the same as for the Pasquale Porcelli Graduate Student Research Excellence Award. The winner receives a Certificate of Excellence in Research and a monetary award from the Department's Pasquale Porcelli Fund.

Pasquale Porcelli Graduate Student Academic Excellence Award
Each spring semester the Pasquale Porcelli Award for Graduate Academic Excellence is awarded to a graduate student who is currently in the first two years of doctoral studies and has passed the Comprehensive Exams at the PhD Qualifying level. This award cannot be won more than once. The purpose is to recognize students whose dedication to the study of mathematics and whose success in such study makes that student a strong role-model for his or her fellow students. The winner receives a Certificate of Graduate Academic Excellence and monetary award from the Department's Pasquale Porcelli Fund.

Bogdan Oporowski Prize
This prize in memory of LSU Mathematics Professor Bogdan Oporowski is endowed upon a final-year Mathematics Ph.D. student who has made a significant mathematical research contribution in a paper or series of papers submitted or accepted for publication. The Bogdan Oporowski Prize is supported by the Margaret and David Oxley Memorial Fund.

Arthur K. Barton Superior Graduate Student Scholarship
Each fall semester the Arthur K. Barton Superior Graduate Student Scholarship is awarded to a few advanced doctoral students. The scholarships will be “for eligible students to provide scholarship support and/or funding for academic or professional experiential opportunities (e.g., internships, conference or research travel). The endowed scholarship funds may be used to supplement other scholarships, fellowships, assistantships, or similar support provided to the recipient.”

David Oxley Teaching Award
This award is given each semester. In the Fall, those eligible are senior graduate students, those who have been in the Mathematics graduate program for more than two years. In the Spring, those eligible are junior graduate students, those who are not senior. A student may win both the junior and senior awards but cannot win the junior or senior award more than once. The award carries a cash stipend of $1000 funded by contributions from faculty and former students and endowed in 2000 by the Oxley family.

Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Assistant Award
The Alumni Association Teaching Assistant Award is intended to recognize outstanding teaching ability and service to students. The award acknowledges and emphasizes the important role teaching assistants play in providing quality academic instruction. The award consists of a cash award and an engraved plaque. Certificate of Teaching Excellence
The awarding of these certificates began in Fall, 1994. Up to five certificates are awarded each semester. The certificates are awarded in two categories: Junior (for students in their first two years in our graduate program); and Senior (for students beyond their first two years in our program). A maximum of one certificate is awarded to any individual in a given academic year.
