The Department has been awarded a new 3 year GAANN grant (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need) from the US Department of Education commencing Fall 2012. Mathematics has been designated by congress as an area of national need. This grant tries to address this area of national need by providing for doctoral fellowships to support excellent US citizen and Permanent Resident graduate students in mathematics at LSU. These fellowships can pay up to $30,000 per year, capped however by the student's level of financial need, and they cover tuition and certain other educational expenses. Project directors Len Richardson, Larry Smolinsky, William Adkins and Jacek Cygan will provide further information to eligible students.
