The Thurston Bennequin number of a Legendrian knot $\Lambda$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$ is given by \[tb(\Lambda)=w(\Lambda)-\#\textrm{right cusps}\] where $w(\Lambda)$ is the writhe of the knot.
