This denotes the (graded) ruling polynomial of $L$. It is defined as \[\sum_{\rho}z^{j(\rho)}\] where the sum is taken over all (graded) normal rulings and \[j(\rho)=\# \textrm{switches}-\#\textrm{right cusps}+1.\]
