Machines:

For reference, below is a list of all machines grad students can log into. Most are not suited for background jobs or for heavy-duty foreground jobs. Nonetheless, in addition to the special-purpose machines chivo1, chivo2, and chivo3, many of us are forced to run stuff on machines that people physically sit in front of, especially during crunch time (meaning: the Numerical Methods class has an assignment due). Before you ever attempt to put stuff on another machine or in the background of your machine, be sure to read Remote/background.

Servers:

Never run heavy-duty stuff on these machines.

  • Grad lab machines:

Users may be logged in physically, so use nice and monitor regularly.
